Festive Five Minutes with AV Home

Festive Five Minutes with AV Home

We are continuing in our mission to find a few moments of calm, in the midst of festive fever, to talk with some of our interviewees from 2022 about their festive plans and preparations.

We spoke with the delightful Arthty Ragupathy back in March of this year and we marvelled at the way she transformed her new build, blank canvas house into a stunningly chic space that nods to heritage design and rural elegance whilst remaining minimalist and beautifully balanced.

We caught up with her again recently to find out what Christmas is looking like for her and her family in their beautiful Hampshire home this year.  As well as getting the lowdown on her festive picks from Hudson Home for this season and the most wonderful time of the year…

What would you pick as a gift (and who would it be for) from the Hudson Home website this Christmas?

I'd choose the cube ottoman for my mother-in-law. She's an excellent chef & nothing brings her quite as much joy as hosting people & cooking for them - so this piece would add a lovely amount of warmth to her living room whilst also acting as additional seating for her guests.

What would you love to find under the tree from Hudson Home this year?

As we're wrapping up our DIY kitchen transformation, I'd love the white marble square board which would look beautiful on top of our butcher block worktops.

How would you describe your festive decor style?

I would describe my festive decor style as homely or traditional. I love bringing a simple, lived-in take to my Christmas decor that evokes a sense of warmth.

What are your Christmas decoration ‘must haves’ from Hudson Home this season?

The wooden houses & brass cone bells are absolute must haves. I own both & find that they're so versatile. The houses can be styled on a shelf, in a cabinet, on a console table, etc. whilst the bells can easily add a festive touch when hung anywhere in your home. I have a few sets of the bells & have them hung on the pin board in my office nook, on the knob of my antique cabinet door & on the bannister of my staircase. These are timeless pieces I know I'll love for years to come.

What will Christmas look like for you and your family this year?

After nearly 4 years since moving to the UK & being held back by the travel restrictions caused by the pandemic, I'm finally heading home to Canada for Christmas. To say I'm excited, would be the biggest understatement!

What Christmas traditions can you not be without?

Christmas dinner followed by a walk with my family, ending the day with a warm hot chocolate or mulled wine by the fire.

Interiors wise, what trends are you expecting to see in 2023?

I feel like we're going to be seeing a lot of what is currently on trend, trickling into the new year. Warm, bold colours, intricate patterns & traditional/ vintage elements.

Which trends or styles will you be embracing?

I want to include more patterns in my home in the next year. Although I've already begun to do this in the form of soft furnishings, I hope to add patterns through wallpapering & window treatments for a bolder statement. I'd also love to incorporate more colours - I'm determined to add a deep, burgundy somewhere in my home!
