At this stage, they are crisp, clean, and perfectly polished. Whether your kitchen aesthetic is modern, minimalist, or traditional, this initial gold-leaf look offers a classic, sophisticated elegance that elevates the entire room. If you would like to keep them looking as pristine as possible, we recommend regularly using a metal cleaner like Brasso and a lint free cloth.  They will never remain as shiny as they arrive but this will stop them becoming dull. 

How they Patina Over Time

Here is the secret that design enthusiasts love: these mills are designed to live with you.

While many mass-market brass products are sealed with heavy-duty, synthetic solvent lacquers that trap the metal behind a plastic-like barrier, we do things differently. We finish our mills with a specialized water-based lacquer.

This is a premium, eco-conscious choice that allows the brass to breathe. It provides enough protection for daily use, but it is permeable enough to let the metal interact naturally with its environment. Over time, your mill will not stay frozen in that initial high-shine state. Instead, it will develop a beautiful, deep patina.

This darkening of the brass, a richer, more "antique" golden hue which adds character and warmth to the piece.  Everytime you handle the mills, the oil and water from our skin reacts with brass and it transforms your mill from a shiny accessory into a well-loved, heirloom-quality tool that feels more uniquely yours.
