British Vogue has hailed Lauren Caisley ‘English traditionalism mixed with a modern sense of style’
She is an exquisite designer working to create timeless, layered and considered interiors. In her own words, she seeks to ensure that ‘elegance meets practicality’ in each of her projects; for the houses she works on to truly be homes that people can live happily and healthily in.
Having found a niche in the modern traditional luxury market, Lauren Caisley’s design sensibilities speak to us here at Hudson Home on many levels. We are big fans of her work and style, so of course we jumped at the chance to sit down and talk about all things beautiful interiors with Lauren for our Hh Interviews series.
Introduce yourself and what you do
Hello, I’m Lauren Caisley, an Interior Designer and Creative Director. I work on large scale interior architecture and design residential renovations across the UK and abroad.
Is this what you always saw yourself doing?
Absolutely! I used to re-design my bedroom when I couldn’t fall asleep when I was a child. By my teens I was sending my parents out of the house for the day and repainting the Welsh Dresser!
How would you describe your design style?
Modern Traditional. I love a nostalgic nod to tradition but with a contemporary use of space. I want our projects to be homes, homes that people can actually live in, where elegance meets practicality.
Has your design style changed through your career?
I would say it has matured and keeps evolving but it hasn’t changed. I’m still drawn to the beautiful floral patterns of companies like Cabbages and Roses yet we use them in a more refined way.
What are your biggest interior style principles?
To draw on nature, creating earthy, natural projects which are beautiful and cosy and most of all timeless.
Where do you find your inspiration and how does the inspiration process start for each new project?
It usually starts with an inspiration pic, something in nature or maybe a specific piece of fabric. I love art, painting and drawing as sources to inspire.
What’s your trend prediction for interiors over the next year?
Scenic wallpaper! Watch this space, we have some stunning projects where we will be applying a slight variation to traditional methods.
Who would your dream client be or dream property to work on?
We're currently working on it! A beautiful beach house in the channel islands. I have always said I would love to design a ski chalet or a gite in south of France.
Can you share some advice for aspiring interior designers just starting out?
I would recommend an apprenticeship with a larger interior design studio. You’ll gain so much experience and will work across many levels of the design process to identify which part you love best.
What is your go-to podcast?
I’ve been listening a lot to the High Performance podcast recently.
What are you reading at the moment?
MANIFEST by Roxie Nafousi (its sooooo good)
What current Hudson Home product do you love?
Oh I have always loved the mini olive trees – we use them in so many projects!
Name 3 Hudson Home products you would feature in an upcoming project:
Vintage Brown Leather Hold Alls
What can’t you live without?
I can’t live without a cup of tea first thing in the morning!
What's next for you?
We’re working on such exciting projects this year, most are still in the planning stage from beach houses, to central London Mews houses, big country estates and Georgian rectories. Feeling very lucky and grateful we get to work on such beautiful projects and genuinely lovely clients!
